Best Roatan Dive Resorts
For me, Tranquilseas is the best all around option for a diving holiday in Roatan. It’s beautiful, highly rated, and ideally located for the best places to visit in Roatan both under and above the water!
What I love about Tranquilseas:
📍Location: sitting on the beach in Sandy Bay is quiet and with direct access to the beach. But, it’s only a 8 minute taxi ride to West End for afternoon explorations!
🫧Close to dive sites: The best of West End diving is only a few minutes away by boat. The resort sits directly in front of the Aguila shipwreck.
🏨Lodging: the rooms are well designed, comfortable, and with incredible sunset views.
Downsides of Tranquilseas:
- The Pool: the onsite-pool is cute and overlooks the beach, but never gets any sun so it is always cold! Odd set up if you ask me.
- Shallow for Swimming: If you want to swim in the ocean you can right off the beach, but it’s very shallow and a little grassy. Just make sure you wear water shoes.
“We loved our stay at Tranquiliseas. This boutique hotel was away from the high traffic of the cruise ships and had everything we wanted. The rooms were updated with excellent air conditioning and filtered water dispensers. The rooms were comfortable clean and modern. The restaurant was delicious with a variety of options on the menu as well as multiple daily chef specials and the kitchen was even up for special requests. The staff were great, very friendly and helpful to make our stay top notch. Diving and snorkeling were amazing. My husband dived each day and I went along and snorkeled. The captain and dive masters were great taking us to places that made excellent snorkeling for me as well great dives for the divers! The few times we decided to go into town or off the resort the staff arranged taxis for us and even got us discounted tickets to a nearby dolphin attraction. Overall we would definitely stay here again and loved our time at this resort! – Marci (Read more reviews)

2. Naboo Resort & Dive Center
⭐️ RATING: 4.8/5 | 📍 LOCATION:West Bay | ✅ Book it!
Naboo is my favourite dive resort I have stayed at in Roatan. Here’s why:
👣 Walkable. It’s right in the heart of West Bay. You can be on the beach, in shops, restaurants, or catch the water taxi to West End within a few minutes walk.
🤫 Quiet & peaceful. Because it’s not right on the beach it is so beautifully tranquil. You can relax by the pool or in your room with no noise from the streets or beach sellers & partiers.
🫧 Incredible dive team. Wonderfully run and the crew truly loves to be there. All of our dives were well over an hour just because the guides are happy to be there!
Naboo Resort & Dive Center is a perfect choice if you are traveling with non-divers because there is so much to do. The hotel also organizes trips to the east end of the island (that can be done after morning dives too).
Staying in West Bay gives non-divers independence to easily enjoy Roatan while you enjoy your dives!
“We had the most incredible experience at this resort! The grounds were beautifully maintained and felt so private and peaceful—exactly what we were hoping for. Being a smaller resort, it had such a calm and intimate atmosphere that made it easy to relax and unwind.” – Kerry M. See more reviews

3. Ibagari Boutique Hotel
⭐️ RATING: 4.7/5 | 📍 LOCATION: West Bay | ✅ Book it!
Ibagari Boutique Hotel stands out on Roatán as the island’s most refined, adult‑focused luxury escape ideal for divers who also crave design‑forward comfort, romantic vibes, and a sense of privacy.
🌅 Luxury & design-meets-nature ambience. From the moment you arrive, Ibagari feels curated: the architecture, décor and overall vibe combine art, nature, and island sophistication. Suites and villas feature ocean‑ or jungle‑view terraces, deluxe finishes, and some even offer private plunge or infinity pools, perfect for unwinding after a dive.
🤿 Boutique diving with a serene base. The on‑site dive shop (Duna Divers) offers fully serviced dives, reef wall dives, wreck dives, and personalised dive experiences just off the resort’s doorstep. At Ibagari you get top‑tier diving without sacrificing comfort.
🥂 Sunset cava (or champagne) toast One of Ibagari’s most magical touches: with its west‑facing outlook on a quiet stretch of beach, sunsets here are spectacular and intimate. The resort leans into it, offering sunset drinks on the infinity‑deck or beach. A simple event that elevates the experience of this Roatan dive resort.
🍽 Gastronomy & atmosphere. The resort’s restaurant, Luna Muna, is regarded as one of the island’s finest resorts. Great food, signature cocktails, and a dining experience that feels special whether you’re rolling in after a dive or doing a romantic dinner.
🏖 Quiet luxury . Ibagari intentionally maintains a calm, tranquil, adults‑only (or mostly adult) atmosphere. If you’re after solitude, romance, or just a refined escape, this is one of the best picks in Roatán.
I’ve been to Ibagari Boutique Hotel countless times over the past seven years. It’s the only hotel and destination I travel to over and over again because of their stellar service, beautiful rooms, exquisite location, and 10 star diving operation. It just doesn’t get better. My recent eight day stay was no exception. If you’re looking for a romantic stay, want to dive, or a mix of both, you won’t find a place like it. I’ve tried to replicate the Ibagari experience around the world, from Asia to North and Central America to the Middle East and haven’t found anything comparable. If you’re thinking of staying here, book now, or someone else will get to enjoy this amazing place before you do. – Tom P (Read more Reviews)

“The facility is beautiful, clean, grounds are well maintained. The staffing are bilingual and very professional and attentive. During our stay we had the pleasure of being hosted by Clara, Keiven, Oscar one of the waiter at breakfast Berkley or something along that line. (Sorry I cant remember the name)
Food was great. I loved that it was buffet style but they served it, not having that cross contamination from hands to hands. Omelet station and a view that would brighten up your day. The bar, the pool. Over all my friend orange cat that was supper friendly. Rooms are spacious and with kitchen. I will come back for sure. I did a tour through the hotel. Roberto was great booking and making sure everything was completed. Security is tight.” – Jose & Monica (Read more reviews)

CocoView is legendary among Caribbean divers. It’s the resort you pick when your priority is to dive as much as humanly possible.
🐠 Unlimited shore diving. Their “front yard” reef lets you dive 24/7. Drop in whenever you want day or night and explore the Prince Albert wreck and CoCoView Wall.
📸 Photographer heaven. Slow diving, macro life, and relaxed schedules make it a favourite for underwater photographers.

“CocoView is a very nice dive resort. Very relaxed atmosphere, beautiful grounds, great diving, hearty and plentiful food, good roomy accommodations. Not fancy, but very peaceful with great staff and a very well run dive operation. Diving is the point, there is not a lot to do if you are not a diver. There are excursions, live music some nights, and so forth, but it is lacking non-dive resort staples like a swimming pool, spa, etc. They arranged a nice massage, and everyone was very friendly and helpful with any requests.” – Isaac O, USD (Read more reviews)

“The food choices were much better than other all-inclusive resorts I have been to, and it changed every day I was there, leaving nothing to be desired as far as food choices went. Cocktails were amazing and plentiful with an endless choice of delicious tropical drinks. They do not skimp on booze and bar service was exceptional, and a plentiful amount of bars exist throughout the resort. Location is amazing with only a 6-7 minute walk to the marine park snorkeling, and an amazing white sand beach only a moments walk from the room.” -Paul C, Canada (Read more reviews)

If you are looking to escape the crowds, look no further than Barefoot Cay Resort. This roatan dive resort is for travelers who want boutique luxury, quiet surroundings, and a personalized dive experience.

🌅 Calm & romantic. With ocean-view villas, hammocks, and serene waterfront spaces, it’s perfect for couples or anyone wanting a more upscale stay away from the bustle of West End/West Bay.
Barefoot Cay is ideal for divers looking for a peaceful, intimate escape with high-end touches and a dive shop that prioritizes quality over crowds.
“The property is divided into two portions with the office, dive center, docks and rooms on one side of the water and the restaurants, villas, and additional docks on the other side, which also has lounging areas and lots of greenery, well tended grounds. The two bedroom villa was nice in size with large bedrooms and a common space in between that was a bit smaller but comfortable. Cooked dinner a couple days and the kitchen was well outfitted for this. The restaurant is very good, but the menu is small and this can wear after several days. They did an excellent Xmas dinner though. The main reason we came here was to dive and the dive center is well run. The dive staff take care of tanks, BCDs, regs, fins, setting up gear before the boat leaves the dock, so all you do is come aboard with your wetsuit, booties, and head off to dive, and they unload for you after, all of which is a luxury. The diving was great and this would definitely bring us back

10. Turquoise Bay Dive & Beach Resort
⭐️ RATING: 4.5/5 | 📍 LOCATION: East End | ✅ Book it!
Turquoise Bay is a great mid‑to‑upscale resort if you want a mix of good diving, comfortable accommodations, and a relaxed beach vibe.
🏖 Beach + comfort. Turquoise Bay sits right on a beautiful stretch of sand with easy access to beach loungers, shade palapas, and shallow water perfect for relaxing between dives, snorkeling, or just unwinding.
🤿 Solid dive operations. What you give up in location, you gain in the dive sites. At first you might think being so far from the popular west end dive sites is a downside, when the reality is the east side of Roatan has far healthier, less busy, and stunningly beautiful dive sites without the crowds of the west.
🌅 Relaxed atmosphere. Turquoise Bay tends to attract travellers who care about comfort and ease as much as diving — couples, small groups, or those who want downtime by the beach or pool after morning dives.

Roatan Dive Resorts I do not Recommend

Anthony’s Key Resort
⭐️ RATING: 4.7 | 📍 LOCATION: Sandy Bay
I was a frequent visitor of Anthony’s Key Resort, staying 6 times from 2023-2025 for week long dive holidays.
I have mixed feelings about this location. The hotel staff are incredible, but I dislike their practices both with diving and the animals in captivity they maintain.
Pros of Anthony’s Key Dive Resort
- Beautiful location with overwater bungalows, and activities like paddleboarding and akayaking
- Incredible, local staff. Almost all their staff & dive team are Hondurans & islanders. The resort is also owned by an islander who is active in the Roatan community.
- Great for families and non-divers
Cons of Anthony’s Key Dive Resort
- Remote. Its difficult to get to other parts of Roatan from here, so most people stay on resort.
- Poorly trained dive staff. They have up to 12 divers per dive guide, and I have personally watched their guides feed, pet, and harass wildlife underwater.
- Dolphins. They have been keeping dolphins in captivity for decades and continue to sell experiences where people can ride them.
For these reasons, the cons outweight the pros for me and I do not recommend divers to stay at Anthony’s Key Resort in Roatan.
Why stay in dive resort?
Comfort! Convenience, relaxing, good food, you name it. There are lots of great reasons to stay at a dive resort instead of booking your dives and accommodations separate.
Dive resorts allow you to fully enjoy your holiday without needing to make a decision. All your needs can be met right there!
I also love the social aspect of staying at a dive resort. You meet fellow divers, swap fish tales, and usually make friends easily!
I would definitely choose a dive resort for solo dive travel.
How to Choose a Dive Resort?
First, when picking a dive resort in Roatan make sure you know the location. The island is sparse, don’t choose a remote location like Turquoise Bay if you are hoping to walk around and shop.
Then, pick the comfort level you want. Do you need the amenities of West Bay resorts like Naboo? Or do you want to connect with nature at Barefoot Cay?
Then, I look for reviews like I did in this post. I only look at places that have more than 4.5/5 stars, reviews within the last year, and reviews from a mix of people from different parts of the world.

Most dive shops have all gear available to rent, except for a dive computer. See my dive travel tips page for gear recommendations and how to pack for a dive trip!

Yes – each resort will have their own package pricing, but they will definitely have an option for you!

Yes – all resorts will have other activities and snorkel options for non-divers. Through I recommend staying somewhere in West Bay or West End with non-divers so they can explore more easily!

Most of the diving is on the northwest side of Roatan. It is more protected from the winds most of the year offering more calm and stable conditions.

Roatan Travel Planning Guide
🚑Do I need Travel Insurance to visit Roatan?
Absolutely, yes, 1000x yes! If there is anything we have learned from the last few years it’s that life is unpredictable and plans can always change.
At just a few dollars per day, it’s worth getting travel insurance just for the peace of mind. I have my travel health insurance through Safety Wing and my travel insurance through Travel Insurance Master.
💦 Can I drink the water in Roatan?
No, the water in Mexico from the taps is not generally safe to drink. Restaurants and street vendors use purified water distributed in large jugs.
You can get these “garafons” delivered to your accommodations to reduce plastic waste, or I use a LifeStraw to have clean water anywhere you travel!
🚙 Is it safe to rent a car in Roatan?
Yes! It’s totally safe to rent a car in Roatan, and I always do so that I can adventure to the east end, get groceries, or check out a new beach. I recommend comparing prices and booking in advance with Discover Cars.
🗣️Do I need to speak Spanish in Roatan?
No – but it’s always good to try
English is taught in the schools on the island, so most people speak at least some. But there are many people from the mainland or other parts of latin america too! You can get by with Google Translate, and tours are offered in both English and Spanish.
I used Pimsleur to learn Spanish and it was extremely effective! I highly recommend the app to anyone who wants to become comfortable navigating latin america.
📲 Will my phone work in Roatan?
Probably not, Honduras is not generally covered on north american data plans. You can get a Claro sim card from the gas stations, and recharge it as needed. Or I use JetPack eSim to make sure I will have connection the moment I land.
🏨How do I book a place to stay in Roatan?
When I travel, I book all my accommodations on Booking.com. I like the rewards structure, and having all booking and cancellation conditions clearly laid out for me.
They have access to hotels, vacation rentals, and even short-term apartment rentals there and is usually cheaper than Airbnb.
For travellers on a budget, I like to book hostels through HostelWorld.
🛂Do I need a visa for Honduras?
Maybe, tourists from Canada and the USA are granted up to 90-day tourist stay upon arrival at the airport. This is now done with a stamp in your passport. However, Roatan immigration is notoriously sticky and will only give you the exact days you need. Make sure you have your return flight details handy when landing.
If you are coming from the UK, you will need to apply for a tourist visa from an embassy before arriving.
