Best Places to Work Remotely in Huatulco

The workforce has been changing over the last decade and more and more people crave the freedom and flexibility of remote work. People like me!
As someone who is working remotely in Huatulco full-time for the last 2 years, I have had the privilege to live the challenges and immense opportunities remote work can bring.
One of the challenges of working remotely is that you are in your house alone, all day! Sometimes that is just fine with me, but for my sanity, I know that I need to work outside of my house at least one afternoon per week.
As I have explored the different remote work options Huatulco has to offer, I have made this list of the Best Places to Work Remotely in Huatulco!

The Best Place to Work Remotely in Huatulco – Golden Circle
Golden Circle Huatulco does not win this first-place title just because it is the only coworking space in Huatulco, it is actually a great place to work for the day!
Hosted inside of the Best Western Huatulco, Golden Circle offers an air-conditioned, indoor group working space, as well as private rooms for rent.
What’s Great:
Here’s what I love about working at Golden Circle Huatulco
#1 – The internet is amazing
“Good internet” is a myth in Huatulco. We are so remote it is impossible to get good service from standard providers. Best Western spent big bucks to get high-speed internet put in, and it works!
For reference, typical internet speeds in Huatulco are 10-30 download and 4-10 upload. Golden Circle comes in at close to 200 for both!

#2 – Air Conditioning
As I mentioned, Golden Circle is the only coworking space in Huatulco so other working spaces tend to be cafes and restaurants. Since almost all of Huatulco’s restaurants are open-air, you will have a tough time finding an air-conditioned working space anywhere else in town!
#3 – Comfortable Space
The work stations have been set up thoughtfully, with a variety of seating options. I love being able to change positions and chairs for my work, depending on what I am working on in the moment!
#4 24-hour Access
This is a pretty awesome feature I feel! Because the hotel has 24 hour reception, you can technically access the space any time of day. The official hours of the coworking space are 7:00am to 11:00pm, but the staff are extremely accommodating and are happy to supply you with what you need!

The Downsides
There aren’t many, just the typical things that come with sharing a space!
#1 No sound-proofing
Even in the private rooms, the sound carries. Its definitely still workable but be prepared to eavesdrop on your coworker’s zooms!
#2 No AC in the private rooms
The private rooms themselves have a fan but do not have an AC unit, however the whole coworking level is kept very cool so you probably won’t over heat. However if you have the door shut all day it might get a little warm.

The Best Free Place to Work Remotely in Huatulco – Paraiso Café

This might be an unfamiliar name to those familiar with the area, but the location is sure to be familiar to many! After Café Dublin closed in 2021, Café Paraiso took over and opened around Christmas 2021. While very different from the Irish-pub style of its predecessor, Café Paraiso has done an excellent job converting the space into a welcoming café and remote working space.
For me, Café Paraiso is the best place to work remotely in Huatulco for a few reasons:
#1 Workable Wifi
You should all be very familiar with the internet situation in Huatulco, but if not I have outlined it for you here.
Café Pariaso uses Mega Cable, which I feel is the best option for internet in Huatulco for the general public. There are some better providers and a fibre optic option, but only in a few very specific areas and can be very expensive.

I did a wifi speed test from the rooftop at Paraiso because that’s where I like to work. The internet is a little stronger downstairs but this is more than enough for the type of work I do.
#2 Welcoming Workspace
Internet is important of course, but so is the atmosphere. Café Paraiso has a great vibe. The mornings are pretty busy, so I like to arrive after lunch and I am usually one of only a couple people there. The rooftop patio has great shade gets a solid cross breeze (bring a paper weight!) so its nice and cool , and in true Mexican fashion have extension cords around so you can plug in your devices.
The downstairs area is great too, I like to sit at the bar looking out the windows or in one of the cozy DIY sofas. But the downstairs gets a little more street noise, and of course the noise from the espresso machine and kitchen, so if you have to make a lot of calls the rooftop is a better choice.
#3 Fantastic Food
Just when you thought it couldn’t get better, in addition to the great space and decent wifi, the food and drinks at Café Paraiso are fantastic! And priced extremely fairly.
If you have read my Best Restaurants Huatulco post, you know I am very specific about my coffee. Paraiso makes a great cortado (my drink of choice), and supply their coffee from nearby Pluma.
They even have an iconic drink of their own – the Café Lemonade. This mixture of lemonade and espresso is served cold, and makes for a fascinating experience on your palate. The combined acids create a rich foam on top, and have an effrevescent effect on your tongue. It is definitely a must try in Huatulco!
- Cafe Limonada
- Cornito – or Croissant sandwich. Best 50 pesos you can spend in Huatulco
- Chilequiles, they were good but personally I prefer tortillas to totopos for my chiliequiles
- Cafe Paraiso has pastries! Nearly impossible to find in Huatulco.
#4 Wonderful Waitstaff
I have never had the same waiter twice in my visits to Café Paraiso, but every person I have interacted with has been exceptionally welcoming and kind. They seem to enjoy being there and like to tell you about the menu and converse, something I really appreciate in my visits there. They make me feel like I belong and probably is the biggest reason I consider Café Paraiso to be the best place to work remotely in Huatulco.
Other Great Places to Work Remotely in Huatulco
There are some other great places to work remotely in Huatulco, some I have mentioned before in my list of Best Cafés in Huatulco, but it never hurts to share them again!
Ragazzi Cafe on Chacah
It’s no secret that Ragazzi has what I believe to be the best coffee in Huatulco, so it should be no surprise that I haul my laptop over there whenever I can.

Best parts of working remotely from Ragazzi:
- The coffee, obviously
- I love the ¨Cafe in Paris¨ vibe of Ragazzi. It feels very European
- The staff are lovely!
The Downsides:
Chacah can be a pretty busy street, so I definitely don’t recommend Ragazzi if you need to make a lot of phone calls or don’t like the street noise. There are lots of motos and cars going by, and a tienda next door that can get busy.
Café Porto en el Centro
Another place I like to go to work remotely is at Café Porto in, right in the heart of Downtown La Crucecita.
Best parts of working remotely from Café Porto:

- I love the location. They have fun places to sit (including a swing!) and I love the vibe and energy of being in the heart of town
- The wifi is great, I haven’t tested it, but its where I go if I am having trouble somewhere else, I have done large zoom calls there without any trouble.
The Downsides:
- The Location. I definitely don’t come here if I need to make calls, as there is a lot of noise because you are downtown. Café Porto is part of a row of businesses that all share a seating area, so its quite busy.
- The coffee. I really like their chai, but the coffee isn’t amazing. It is a great place to go if you like a fancy frappachino though!
About Internet Service in Huatulco
To be totally transparent, the internet service in Huatulco is not amazing, and it is something that you just need to accept and adjust to. I am able to function perfectly fine, but there is always a chance that the network could go down, construction could randomly start and disrupt service, or any other of a myraid of possibilities could pop up.
My work is mostly browser-based, and work communication is over Slack. I do a few zooms a week with about 10 people, but otherwise, I am just browsing and using our browser-based platform. I also taught English online with VIPKid (which is video based) for a few months and had very few issues.
So before you commit to working remotely anywhere in México, but especially Huatulco, make sure you know the minimum specs you need to function at your work.
There are two main service providers in Huatulco, TelCel and Megacable. There are a few others available in different sectors, but these are the ones that are available pretty much anywhere.
Telcel
TelCel has two branches of internet, their wireless, 4G modems under the TelCel umbrella, and TelMex, their wired service. TelMex is definitely stronger and more reliable, but not nearly as reliable as MegaCable.
MegaCable is hands-down the best provider in Huatulco, but don’t forget you are still in Huatulco. We use MegaCable at home, and have had outages less than 5 times in the 8 months we’ve had it, and only once during work hours, the other times were late at night.
During the tourist season
During the tourist season, everything is slower. Obviously, more people using the limited bandwidth bogs everything down. There are way more service shortages during peak season.
Coworking Spaces
Huatulco is a little slow on the coworking front. At the moment, there is only one co-working space in Huatulco. It’s called Golden Circle Huatulco and is located inside the Best Western Hotel in Chahue.
Golden Circle Huatulco has amazing internet. They have paid a lot of money to get fibre-optic and the speeds are far above anything else you will see in Huatulco. However; the ¨co-working space¨ is a converted former massage room. It’s an awkward, crowded space completely inconducive to doing any sort of video conferencing.
Shev’s Top Tips for Working Remotely in Huatulco
#1 – Towel
No matter where you go in Huatulco, it’s hot! I like to bring a scarf or a towel to put under my palms and arms while working on my laptop to help with the sweat and stickiness.
I use my lightweight travel towel because it packs so light and I like to have it with me anyway for impromptu beach stops!
#2 – Wireless Headphones
I mean, it’s 2022, I don’t think many of us don’t have a set of wireless headphones at this point. I like my Skullcandy earbuds which I use for all my phone calls, zooms, or videos.
I like my Jaybirds because they are noise cancelling, but I also have a pair of Skull Candys. That way if one dies, I have a backup!
#3 – A Reliable Powersource
While I generally don’t have trouble getting power and wifi, I always bring my powerbank along just in case! This one from Anker is the best quality for the price!
#4 Surge Protector
This is SO important in Mexico in general, and definitely in Huatulco. All our appliances in our house are plugged into surge suppressors (for small items) and surge protectors (larger appliances), but not before we lost a blender, a fan, and our toaster oven to the mercy of Mexican electrical surges.
I like to take this one with me on my travels, its affordable and I love a pop of colour. You may want to get a heftier protector for things like your tv and fridge though. We have had our tv fixed twice due to power surges!
Do you have any other places to work remotely in Huatulco? I love to hear your suggestions and am always looking for new places to visit.
