Condos Pacifico Huatulco Review

Condos Pacifico Huatulco – A Review

One of the most popular residences for travellers to stay in when they come to Bahías de Huatulco is in a rental condo in Condominios Pacifico Huatulco. Its ideal location in Downtown La Crucecita makes it a popular rental choice for foreign residents and tourists alike!

Welcome to Condos Pacifico!

I had the opportunity to live in a gorgeous, 3rd floor, 3-bedroom unit for two months early in my life here in Huatulco. During my residency, I became really good friends with another solo traveller who was staying in a ground-level, 2-bedroom unit. So, it is from our perspectives as under-30, solo female travellers in these two units that will be considered in this review.

Also keep in mind that I stayed here in May & June 2021, one of the lowest tourist seasons ever because of the time of year and the travel restrictions that were in place in most of the world. So my experience will probably differ quite a bit from a normal high-season visit, but I still think Condos Pacifico Huatulco is a great place to be for a long or short-term stay!

About Condos Pacifico

Condos Pacifico Huatulco is a group of condo buildings located in the heart of Bahías de Huatulco, right in downtown La Crucecita. It is inhabited by a mix of residents, part-time residents, and short-term visitors alike.

As a rental option, Condos Pacifico is best for people who are looking to be somewhat self-sufficient during their stay in Huatulco and are willing to sacrifice ocean views for the energy, amenities, and fun that the core of Las Bahías de Huatulco has to offer.

Condos Pacifico operates similarly to any other condo building. The suites are individual properties, so it is difficult to make a general statement about the style and condition of the apartments. But the grounds and security are managed by the condo association so you will get the general idea here!

Location

Condos Pacifico is located on Calle Carrizal, one of the busiest streets in La Crucecita. The buildings occupy the space between Carrizal and Boulevard Chahue as it curves towards the sea.

Condos Pacifico Location in downtown La Crucecita

Coming from living on the other side of La Crucecita in Sector H, I was worried I would be too far from the action in the centre square (El Centro) in this new location.

I could not have been more wrong. Condos Pacifico is ideally located near all of the best shops and restaurants, and is about a 10-minute walk from the rest of them! And as you know now from my How to Travel in Huatulco post, while at Condos Pacifico you are close to several taxi stands, collective stands, and the ADO station is just across the boulevard.

Some of my Favourite Spots

Living so close to the action I became a regular at a few locations:

Los Parados – featured in my Best Restaurants in Huatulco post, and dangerously close to the condo building.

Marta Jary – A bakery on Macuil street directly in front of the building, and open all hours! My favourite place for a chocolate croissant or to buy my bread for sandwiches.

Abarrotes Santa Cruz – Your everything store. It is small and unassuming from outside, but seemingly endless from the inside. You can buy bulk anything: snacks, candy, flour, olive oil, etc. There is also liquor, fresh meet and cheese, milk, and shelf goods.

Fruitavera – Next door to Abarrotes Santa Cruz is where you can find the only thing that the aforementioned lacks, fresh produce. There are many fruit stores along Carrizal,  but in my opinion, this one is the best.

Unfortunately, Huatulco imports most of their fruits and vegetables from Oaxaca and Puebla, and I find places like Fruvert to be too perfect. Their products are shiny and pretty, but have no flavour. Frutavera is the perfect balance of food that is just ugly enough that you know its real, for a good price.

I ate a LOT of toasted croissants while living here. Some cheese, sliced tomato and cucumber, and just a touch of salt and pepper. *Chef’s Kiss*

Productos Oaxaqueños Abi Sofi – if you enjoy cooking at all, be sure to wander into this store once or twice. Even if you don’t want to cook on your holiday, I highly recommend bringing some things home with you! This is the most glorious spice shop I have found outside of Oaxaca City.

The Downsides

Of course, being in the centre has its downsides. For me, this was the proximity to Blvd. Chahue. Undeniably the busiest road in Bahías de Huatulco, Boulevard Chahue is also the biggest road and is the main access from the bays to the rest of Oaxaca.

The pool at Condos Pacifico

Unfortunately, the pool is located on this end of the property, and I found it incredibly noisy. There were always lots of trucks and busses driving by, in addition to the normal hum of motos and cars going about their days.

This is one reason I didn’t spend much time by the pool, but more on that later.

Building Amenities

The grounds of Condos Pacifico are quite big, and because the buildings look the same it can be easy to get lost. Thankfully the buildings are alphabetized so just remember your letter!

There is a large shared pool, ample deck space, and a little garden space. As I mentioned it can be rather noisy, but sometimes you can hear the birds.

The table and chair system by the pool is a little confusing, I think the idea is that each suite brings their own table and chairs down and marks them for their use. I understand this for the people who live there of course, but there are over 60 suites in Condos Pacifico, and so many are rentals. It’s weird to me that they wouldn’t have some general use chairs. There is no way there would be enough space for every suite to have its own space.

The Pool at Condos Pacifico Huatulco

Thankfully no one seemed to mind when we used the tables and chairs there.

Condos Pacifico also has a 24-hour guard and garbage and recycling facilities. This may seem obvious but recycling can be very hard to find in Huatulco.

Safety

Huatulco as a whole is a very safe community. We are still a small town and the people tend to take care of each other!

As for the safety of Condos Pacifico, it is gated and there is a guard stationed at the gate 24 hours. This is very convenient for a lot of reasons of course; the guards are very friendly and you can ask them questions. They will also help you with things like getting your water jugs filled.

However, I found the security too extensive and often cumbersome for my tastes, and perhaps it’s just that I don’t think condo living is the right fit for me.

I love hosting and was starting to make friends in La Crucecita. But in order for anyone to visit Condos Pacifico, they have to sign in and out. Not a big deal.

However, you are not allowed to have guests in the pool or common areas, which to me is just ridiculous. After enjoying dinner with two friends in my unit, we went down to the pool to cool off before calling it a night. We were not partying or drinking or a big group, just 3 of us chatting like everyone else in the pool. The next day I was reprimanded by the guards and told it could compromise my rental if I did it again. It was a very upsetting experience.

Now, my friend in a different unit also had two guests visit and they used the pool in a similar fashion, but she was not reprimanded. Her friends were from the US and staying at a different resort, my friends were Mexican and live in town. I don’t know if that’s a coincidence or not.

The Suites in Condos Pacifico

From the floor plans I have seen, Condos Pacifico is made up largely of two- and three-bedroom suites.

Because they are all individually owned, even though the units have similar designs each suite is very unique, especially the top floor units.

The top-level units (3rd floor, 2nd if you’re European), have vaulted ceilings, so every unit has chosen a different way to occupy that space, generally through a loft bedroom of some kind.

My unit was in building B, and had a lovely, open feel to it. It had a loft master bedroom with walk-through closet & en-suite.

There was another bedroom on the main level, as well as bedroom/office/rec room. This space had the to access the loft via a soft, spiraling stair case.

I loved this unit, I had zero problems with bugs, but when the rains came I had some intense flooding. Thankfully we found the problem but it was a crazy couple days as watered flooded in from the roof.

My friend on the ground floor did not have the same sentiments about her suite.

Her two-bedroom unit felt very dark and much smaller than mine. Overall this was ok because really, how much time do you spend at home?

However, she had constant issues with bugs. And not just like a mosquito or spider. Like a constant barrage of cockroaches and termites. She probably could have done more to complain to the owner of the suite, but it’s hard when you’re on holiday. She rented her suite through Airbnb so did not have a good way to contact the owner other than through the app.

What to expect when you arrive

If you do decide to stay in Condos Pacifico, here is what to expect and a few tips!

1 – When you first arrive at Condos Pacifico, be sure to introduce yourself to the guard. Share your names and what unit you are in, and how long you will be staying. This will help both you and the guards as it will make it so much easier for you to enter and exit once they get to know you.

2 – Your rental should include a nice big welcome binder about the residences. This has great information about how to get water (hopefully your unit has an 18-gallon jug (garaffon). These are very easily refilled and delivered to your door, rules about the facility, and other logistical things like wifi passwords and pool hours.
