13 New Restaurants in Huatulco You Need to Try

It is no secret that Huatulco has a vibrant food scene, and 2023 seems to be a big year for our collective palates here in Oaxaca! Not only did many of Huatulco’s best restaurants survive the slower tourism years of 2020-2022 (thankfully!), but a few new faces have made there way onto the Huatulco culinary soon and we are here to support them!

I have been making a point of checking out a lot of these new places lately, and I would love it if you would do the same so we can help ensure the success of these new endeavours!

#1-6 Chahue Corner

Eagle Ray cafe is located in Chahue corne and is one of huatulco's best cafes.

Chahue Corner is an excellent new addition to Huatulco and is quickly becoming the go-to hangout spot in the evenings. This section in the business strip of Chahue beach is home to five different restaurants that share a large seating area. Think of it like an upper-class food truck village of sorts.

#1 Nayu Bistro – a fresh food bar serving healthy and delicious snacks and meals.
#2 Eagle Ray Cafe – one of Huatulco’s best cafes
#3 100% Terraneo – full-flavoured Spanish-inspired tapas, with products sourced from their butcher shop next to La Cava. We had 3 incredible nibbles from here!
#4 La Cava Wine Bar – a chance to taste the splendors of La Cava’s wine store, also located in Chahue.
#5 El Chino by Océan – a chance to enjoy the flavours of Océan restaurant, known for its delicious seafood! Unfortunately, the full restaurant in Arrocito burned down in late January 2023, so for now this is the only place we can enjoy Océan’s wonderful food!
#6 Shake It – cool off from the Huatulco heat with a milk shake or malt from this little stand in Chahue Corner

On Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings, you can do all this while enjoying live music from local musicians!

#7 Romero

Welcome to Huatulco’s newest and positively fabulous brunch location, Romero, in downtown La Crucecita.

Every detail of this breakfast and lunch restaurant is well thought out, the table settings, the decor, the dishware, and even the rosemary-infused water is perfectly designed to create a welcoming and comfortable environment.

Romero is an absolute must-visit for anyone visiting or living in Huatulco, you will not be disappointed!

Romero is open 8:30am – 2:30pm every day except Wednesday.

#8 La Verduzca Vegetropical

Huatulco is finally getting some much-needed variety in its food offerings, with not one, but two new vegan restaurants calling La Crucecita home.

La Verduzca set up shop on Chacah in downtown, across from Ragazzi cafe. They did an excellent job putting together a welcoming, plant-filled environment that oozes comfort and calm.

Their menu is equally plant-filled, offering some much-needed vegan and vegetarian options to Huatulco’s food scene. Even if you are a dedicated meat eater, I promise you will enjoy the full flavours of the food here at La Verduzca Huatulco.

You might see some familiar faces and food items in La Verduzca, as the owners are the very same vegan sandwich makers from the Organic Market in Santa Cruz. My favourites have always been the lentil “chorizo” and the “ceviche” made from coconut, which I am happy to see made to the menu here!

#9 PanLuna

Mitzlti, whom you might recognize from the Organic Market, has opened up the vegan bakery and cafe PanLuna in Huatulco.

Between Romero and La Verduzca in La Crucecita you will find little vegan cafe PanLuna, another familiar face from the Organic Market. I used to visit Mitzli and her sister every Saturday for one of their divine vegan brownies, and I am so happy to see them set up a proper cafe!

Be sure to pay PanLuna a visit when out for a walk or heading back from pickleball games at the sportsplex!

#10 La Condesa

One more new cafe in Huatulco to add to your list is La Condesa. Located in Tangolunda across from the Barcelo hotel, this little art cafe features local artisans, a community events board, and Spanish-inspired tapas.

I enjoyed working here for a few hours in the afternoon, it is well-shaded and the wifi functioned well for my purposes.

But mostly, I was impressed with the food. I chose a juice and the “surprise” tapas item (never turn down an opportunity for adventure!) and was presented with a delicious warm sandwich on cloudlike housemade bread.

I have not eaten bread like this since arriving in Huatulco. It was SO delicious and soft.

If your travels take you to Tangolunda, I definitely recommend popping into La Condesa!

#11 Cioffame al Punto

Coiffame al punto is a one of the new restaurants in Huatulco and is on a quiet street in sector H

Huatulco has some pretty fabulous Italian restaurants, but Cioffame al Punto’s breakfast and dinner offerings bring something all-new to Huatulco’s European food options.

Cioffame al Punto is open in the morning for a proper European breakfast and Italian espresso, hearty lunches, and speciality seafood dinners.

They do a special menu every Tuesday, and reservations are already open for their set menu for Valentine’s day. But make sure you reserve soon, spaces are limited!

#12 La Parota Latin American Cuisine

Moving into Huatulco’s fine dining, I am very excited to share with you the newest addition to Huatulco’s restaurant scene – La Parota Latin American Cuisine.

Chef Alejandro is a born and raised Huatulcan who brings only the best from fine Latin-American cuisine. La Parota fills a noticeable gap in Huatulco’s culinary scene.

Enjoy a beautifully curated dish paired with fine Mexican wine on their exquisitely decorated terrace restaurant, what could be finer than that?

#13 Ambrosia Grill

New to the downtown Huatulco food scene is Ambrosia, located right on the centre square, near Xipol.

While only being open for a couple of months now, Ambrosia has already made a name for itself with its big, meat-heavy, American and British-inspired meals. If you are looking for a break from the amazing Mexican food around, check out Ambrosia Grill.

In addition to their regular menu, they do a special dinner once a week. Every Sunday you can pre-order a prime rib and Yorkshire pudding meal to enjoy at home!
